SHOREBIRDS PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

This workshop will take place in a relaxed atmosphere conducive to learning and practising new skills.

With a strong focus on composition, appropriate camera settings, field craft and hands-on practise, participants will leave the workshop with an improved understanding of what it takes to photograph endemic and migratory shorebirds in their coastal habitat.

To ensure each participant gets plenty of one-to-one instruction and support, I have limited this workshop to six places.

All workshop participants will get exclusive access to my workshop facebook group where they can share their images for ongoing supportive critique and tips long after the workshop is completed. You will also get priority access to future workshops focussing on advanced techniques, post production and more.

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

To participate effectively and get the most out of this workshop, participants will need the following equipment:

Camera: DSLR, mirrorless or superzoom camera.

Lens: Minimum 250mm or equivalent zoom. Ideally, a lens in the 400mm to 600mm range is best for bird photography.

Batteries: You will need a minimum of two fully charged batteries.

Memory Cards: I recommend bring a minimum 16GB memory card and having a spare is always a good idea.

CLOTHING

As we will be sitting and/or lying on the sand I recommend wearing quick-drying natural coloured or camouflage clothes and bringing a change of cloths with you. A towel or two would also be a good idea. There is a small toilet block that can be used for changing. A good wide-brimmed hat is also advisable.

OPTIONAL

Ground pod: A ground pod like the Naturescapes Skimmer Pod 2 with a tripod head attached is ideal for shorebird photography. Alternatively a tripod that can set up at ground level (with no centre pole) would be suitable. However, if you can confidently handhold your lens without camera shake you may prefer to do so.

Rain/weather cover: As you will be photographing shorebirds low down on the beach I highly recommend a rain/weather cover for your camera and lens. I use and recommend LensCoat covers.
